Student Guide

  • Pick your class online. Sign the liability release form. Register and pay online, in advance for your class.

  • Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid eating two hours before class. This allows your body time to fully digest your last meal. Drink plenty of water before and after class. Bring a healthy snack for afterward.

  • Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable clothing, so you can move freely. Layers help your body adjust to temperature changes during and after class. All classes are done barefoot.

  • Bring and invest in your own mat. This supports your commitment to your practice and ensures its cleanliness.

  • Arrive 10 minutes early.

  • One screen per mat policy. We wholeheartedly support couples attending yoga classes together. By having a student per screen, it allows the screen space for me, as a yoga teacher to be able to fully see the student. This allows me to be able to offer feedback, modifications, and safety techniques. The length of the student's yoga mat is facing my screen.

  • All electronic devices are to be turned off and put away during yoga classes.

  • Class instruction is communicated in fluent American Sign Language.

  • Always notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions. This helps the teacher know how to assist you and teach you modified positions.

  • Practice often. Two to three times per week will show improvement for most students within three months.

  • Yoga is not a competition. Do not expose yourself to injury by comparing or competing with others or with yourself. Your body is also your teacher; honor, respect and listen to your body.

  • Yoga is a process. Be compassionate and patient with yourself. Best results are obtained if you maintain a consistent practice.

  • Deafhood Yoga®, like breathing, is a path to transformation that enhances inner and outer well-being.
