Deafhood Yoga celebrates the Circle of Life. Our unique Prenatal Yoga classes celebrate every Mother, their baby/babies and communities. We strive to make your Prenatal Yoga journey as comfortable as possible.

The eight classes include Pranayama/Breathing techniques to bring comfort and support you through contractions and to have a more positive delivery experience. We share Asanas/Poses that bring whole balance and alignment to the pelvis, pelvic floor with the intention of encouraging your baby into a more optimal birthing position. Relaxation takes place by applying our breathing to improve our sleep, reduce anxiety and increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth. Meditation is a divine way to wrap our Prenatal Yoga classes to visualize a healthy, positive birth process together as a team unit with love, inner peace, and light.

All class recordings and content are available in Mighty Networks (MN) to review. Social networking with other Pregnant Mothers, Yoginis and Yogis is included in MN.

Yoga is 1% theory and 99% practice.

Prenatal yoga: What you need to know

Prenatal yoga can be a great way to prepare for childbirth. Find out if this type of prenatal exercise is right for you.

If you're pregnant and looking for ways to relax or stay fit, you might be considering prenatal yoga. But did you know that prenatal yoga might also help you prepare for labor and promote your baby's health?

Before you start prenatal yoga, understand the range of possible benefits, as well as what a typical class entails and important safety tips.

What are the benefits of prenatal yoga?

Much like other types of childbirth-preparation classes, prenatal yoga is a multifaceted approach to exercise that encourages stretching, mental centering and focused breathing. Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have many benefits for pregnant women and their babies.

Prenatal yoga can:

  • Improve sleep

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Increase the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth

  • Decrease lower back pain, nausea, headaches and shortness of breath

Prenatal yoga can also help you meet and bond with other pregnant women and prepare for the stress of being a new parent.

What happens during a typical prenatal yoga class?

A typical prenatal yoga class might involve:

  • Breathing. You'll be encouraged to focus on breathing in and out slowly and deeply through the nose. Prenatal yoga breathing techniques might help you reduce or manage shortness of breath during pregnancy and work through contractions during labor.

  • Gentle stretching. You'll be encouraged to gently move different areas of your body, such as your neck and arms, through their full range of motion.

  • Postures. While standing, sitting or lying on the ground, you'll gently move your body into different positions aimed at developing your strength, flexibility and balance. Props — such as blankets, cushions and belts — might be used to provide support and comfort.

  • Cool down and relaxation. At the end of each prenatal yoga class, you'll relax your muscles and restore your resting heart rate and breathing rhythm. You might be encouraged to listen to your own breathing, pay close attention to sensations, thoughts and emotions, or repeat a mantra or word to bring about a state of self-awareness and inner calm.

BLOSSOM1: 5 Petals of Life®

Duration

- Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7:30pm EST

- 90 Minute Classes

- Check your U.S. time zone (7:30pm EST, 6:30pm CST, 5:30pm MST, 4:30pm PST, 1:30pm HST)

5 Petals of Life®: Blossom One introduces a significant foundation to begin your yoga practice at any level, skill or experience. The 5 Petals of Life® is based on Hatha Yoga through the Sivananda lineage and life experiences as Kindred Spirits. Hatha Yoga is considered the “Mother of Yoga”. You learn, apply and practice these essential life skills to center, ground and balance your whole being. Your brain depends on oxygen as its food. When you do not have enough oxygen in your rain, your whole being becomes oxygen deprived. Breathing nurtures and relaxes your whole being. Your body is designed to move and flex in different directions to keep your spine elastic and this keeps your organs and brain healthy. The Lifestyle aspect of discussions are based on yoga philosophy to support humans to unpack. This fundamental foundation supports us to return to our birthright of happiness, inner peace, and love. From this heart-centered core, you are able to open your mind, body, and soul to listen, meditate, communicate and align more with the universal possibilities.

Deafhood Yoga® designed and trademarked this unique 5 Petals of Life® yoga curriculum to offer complete and wholistic yoga approach. 5 Petals of Life® teaches us the 5 main petals:

  1. Breathing | Pranayama | प्राणायाम

  2. Relaxation | Vriasana | व्रिअसन

  3. Postures | Asana | आसन

  4. Lifestyles | Jivanavidhana | जीवनविधान

  5. Meditation | Dhyana | ध्यान

Eight Limbs of Yoga: Blossom Two explores the Eight Limbs of Yoga by Patanjali which is considered the “Father of Yoga”. The Eightfold path is known as Ashtanga, which means "Eight Limbs". These eight steps act as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a way for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline to help you understand your inner and outer worlds. The Eight Limbs direct attention toward one's health to help you to acknowledge the spiritual aspects of your nature with love and light. Yoga means union, to unite, and union with the supreme being. The Eight Limbs of Yoga is a classical philosophy that offers a deeper foundation for all yoga practice plus additional and different paths to achieve the unity of your union. The same foundation of Pranayama, Relaxation, Asanas, Lifestyle, and Meditation (PRALM) that we developed from the previous Blossom 1 will apply through this course at an increased ratio of Pranayama and Ashtanga poses. The 8 Limbs of Yoga is experienced through these eight stages:

  1. Outer Attitudes | Yama | यम

  2. Inner Attitudes | Niyama | नियम

  3. Postures | Asana | आसन

  4. Breathing | Pranayama | प्राणायाम

  5. Withdrawal | Pratyahara | प्रत्याहार

  6. Concentration | Dharana | धारणा

  7. Meditation | Dhyana | ध्यान

  8. Integration | Samadhi | समाधि

Chakra Yoga: Blossom Three offers the opportunity to learn and understand the origin of the chakras. Chakras, in Sanskrit, mean wheels of light. The nature of chakras is to spin wheels of energy to create a combination of energy and life force. We identify where each chakra are represented in the physical body and elements that govern the chakras which influence our mind and body. We explore challenges associated with each chakra and what causes chakras to be underactive or overactive. When our seven major chakras are in balance and spin vibrantly, effortlessly, life is divine. We experience a sense of fullness, wholeness, and contentment. The 7 chakras will be introduced and explored in class:

  1. Root Chakra | Muladhara | मूलाधार

  2. Sacral Chakra | Swadhisthana स्वाधिष्ठान

  3. Solar Plexus Chakra Manipura मणिपूर

  4. Heart Chakra Anahata | अनाहत

  5. Throat Chakra Vishuddha विशुद्ध

  6. Third Eye Chakra Ajna आज्ञा

  7. Crown Chakra Sahasrara सहस्रार
