Welcome to Deafhood Yoga® online classes where we can come together to honor, breathe, and live through the yoga lineage and roots of India.
Bounded by nature, yoga was always within Kristen Marie Weiner’s soul. Over 30+ years, she explored and experienced different types of yoga. In 2007 - 2008, was an opportunity to take the Deafhood course through the Deafhood Foundation, to study Dr. Paddy Ladd’s book, “Understanding Deaf Culture, In Search of Deafhood” within the Deaf community.
Inspired by the quote of Dr. Paddy Ladd, “Deafhood is a process to decolonize our mind, body, and spirit from colonization.” This is when, in 2008, Kristen saw clearly how Deafhood and Yoga parallel. Because "Yoga is also another process to decolonize our mind, body, and soul from colonization." ~ Kristen aka Rajarajeshwari.
In this course, she received a powerful vision of marrying the two concepts of Deafhood and Yoga. She envisioned this pathway to elevate the whole being of our Deaf people, worldwide. In 2009, Kristen met Dr. Paddy Ladd, of the UK who coined the term 'Deafhood’, and asked for permission to name her small business, “Deafhood Yoga.” Paddy was delighted and expressed that Deafhood belongs to every Deaf person. Yoga is a universal gift from India to humanity.
In 2009, Kristen was initiated into the Sivananda Hatha Yoga Lineage where she was blessed with the spiritual name, Rajarajeshwari.
In 2010, Deafhood Yoga® was established to inspire, support, and serve the Full Circle of Life with Deaf people and allies of all walks of life to experience a Deaf-centered and human-centered approach of yoga through sign language.
