Deafhood Yoga®: Student Guide
Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid eating two hours before class. This allows your body time to fully digest your last meal. Drink plenty of water before and after class. Bring a healthy snack for afterwards.
Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable clothing, so you can move freely. Layers help your body adjust to temperature changes during and after class. All classes are done barefoot.
Bring your own yoga mat. Invest in your own yoga mat. This supports your commitment to your practice and ensures its cleanliness.
Arrive 10 minutes early.
Leave shoes and belongings in the hallway. Leave your belongings and your turned off devices (cell phones, pagers, laptops, etc.), in the hallway. This helps preserve the studio’s sacred nature.
Class instruction is communicated in direct American Sign Language.
Always notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions. This helps the teacher know how to assist you and teach you modified positions.
Practice often. Two to three times per week will show improvement for most students within three months.
Yoga is not a competition. Do not expose yourself to injury by comparing or competing with others or with yourself. Your body is also your teacher; respect and listen to your body.
Yoga is a process. Be compassionate and patient with yourself. Best results are obtained if you maintain a consistent practice.
Deafhood Yoga®, like breathing, is a path to transformation that enhances inner and outer well-being.
