New Student Guide

Arrive 10 minutes early.

Create an account online. Register and pay online, in advance for your class. Sign the liability release form. Upon arrival at the studio, please check in to ensure you are in the correct scheduled class session.

Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable clothing in which you can move freely and relax. Layers help your body adjust to temperature changes during and after class.  All classes are done barefoot.

Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid eating two hours prior to class.  This allows your body time to fully digest your last meal. Drink plenty of water before and after class.

Bring your own yoga mat. Investing in your own yoga mat supports your commitment to your practice and ensures its cleanliness.

Leave shoes and belongings in the hallway. Leave your belongings and your turned off devices (such as cell phones, pagers, and laptops) in the hallway.  This helps preserve the studio’s sacred nature.

Always notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions. This helps the teacher know how to assist you and teach you modified positions.

Practice often. Two to three times per week will show improvement for most students within three months.

Yoga is not a competition. Do not expose yourself to injury by comparing or competing with others or with yourself.  Your body is also your teacher; respect and listen to your body.

Yoga is a process. Be compassionate and patient with yourself. Best results are obtained if you maintain a consistent practice.

Deafhood Yoga, like breath, is a path to transformation that enhances inner and outer wellbeing.
