Core values
Deafhood
Deafhood is the organic, intuitive and liberating journey of discovering and healing one’s self as a Deaf human being. This journey into the indigenous culture is a timeless process that centers and balances the self through unconditional love, acceptance and awareness by:
• Embracing Sign Language and Deaf culture as visual, authentic and dyadic.
• Understanding the community’s heritage and evolution.
• Being inspired by this awareness and healing experience.
Deafhood Yoga is the Deaf-centered way of life that reflects a sense of honoring the higher self.
Consciousness
A level of consciousness connected with intuitive understanding elevates as one experiences the shift of ideology related to one’s existence. Consciousness is a deeper assessment of the divine-human equation that is a process and a journey towards social justice and the universal truth.
Through the practice of yoga, we discover ourselves through deeper levels of consciousness. As we enhance and deepen our consciousness, we are able to see and accept our practice, gracefully with humility, in how one responds to other people and the environment.
The body, mind and spirit integrate in unity along with cultural identity. Humanity cannot function without this. The whole person – heart, intellect, and hand – must be developed simultaneously in being alive and full of purpose.
Deafhood Yoga elevates awareness in recognizing that audism, oppression and colonization creates separation rather than well-being and harmony in the body, mind and spirit.
Nature
To nourish the breath and being, the most important principle of yoga is ahimsa: non-harming and non-violent in thought, word and deed towards all living things. Practice of ahimsa blends the essence of self-observation, self-realization and compassion.
Life is a natural process. There are countless trails leading to mountaintops, and many rivers flowing to the infinite ocean. The trails and rivers of your life journey help you see your growth and evolution clearly. By removing ignorance, you become attuned to nature. Breathe. Continue to be grounded and empowered. You are reawakened and reconnected with your presence on the earth and the circle of life. It is then that you are liberated and transformed to live as nature intended.
Deafhood Yoga offers a path into the landscape of your inner core through breathing and sign language flowing through your body for revitalization. It is in your nature and soul to sign.
Nature, Deafhood and Yoga cannot be described. It can only be experienced. Align with your soul’s purpose. When you are with nature, you are with yourself. Nirvana is your true nature.
Just be.
